Children's Home Page

DGFUMC provides a range of educational opportunities for children of all ages, including nursery care provided during worship hours, Pathfinders (Sunday School), and midweek family fellowship that is linked to children's choir rehearsals. The goal is to help children grow in faith, and become familiar with the Bible through a variety of methods, including storytelling and drama, music, video, games, science, cooking and art.


A Piece of Peace

To help you get a little more done this holiday season or to perhaps just have a moment of quite, the Children and Family Work Area is hosting A Piece of Peace.

Children (infant through 6th grade) are welcome to come to the church for an afternoon of Christmas activities and fun! Cost is $5 a child or $10 for two or more children. Dinner will be served.

Please register in the church office by December 13.

Feed My Starving Children Ministry

This holiday season the Children and Family Work Area would like to invite
you to take a moment from the hustle and bustle of preparing for Christmas to serve in a ministry of giving to others in need at Feed My Starving Children in Aurora. This Christian organization runs high-energy sessions where we pack food for the neediest children around the world.

Everyone from church is invited to sign-up to serve in this special ministry. Register online at Feed My Starving Children in Aurora (fmsc.org) with our church code - 1002551. You may also register by contacting Pastor John Smoke at john@dgfumc.org.

Please plan to arrive at 8:40 a.m. so that we may be ready to work at 9:00. Sorry, no children under 5.

Rally Day! Sunday, September 13

Please join us on Rally Day! as we kick-off our new year of educational ministries and prepare to learn to walk with Christ daily in the coming season. At this time, we will return to our three worship service and Sunday school format.

Every person that attends church on Rally Day will receive a cool drawstring backpack with a special message printed on it!

Following worship, Sunday school and Messy Church, everyone is invited to attend a Rally Day lunch, which will include a viewing of the Green Bay Packers verses the Chicago Bears game at noon on a large screen in the church gym.  The menu for the lunch will be Chicago style hot dogs and Wisconsin Brats (along with some other goodies).  Please sign up for the lunch by calling the church office. Please sign-up by Tuesday, September 8.

The Children & Family Work Area has reserved the Tivoli Movie Theater for our Rally Day celebration.  Everyone is invited to attend the movie The Game Plan that will be shown at 4:30 p.m. Each child (12 and under) who attends church that morning will receive a coupon for a free Kiddie Combo (box with popcorn, snack and drink). The doors open at the Tivoli at 4:00 p.m.

The movie is free for ALL so please invite your friends and neighbors to come to church in the morning and to the movie in the afternoon!

Wacky Wednesdays

Wacky Wednesdays is a summer program for children going into 1st grade through 6th grade!  The mission of this program is to bring children together for a lot of fun and fellowship in a church community.  Every child is welcome. Invite your children, grandchildren, children in your neighborhood, and children of friends---ALL CHILDREN ARE WELCOME!   The program meets on Wednesdays from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and there is NO cost!  Parents are welcome to drop off their kids OR stay and enjoy the fun! 

Children are encouraged to bring one non-perishable food item each week to be donated to the Peoples Resource Center!      

Schedule of Wednesdays and Themes:

July 1:  Let’s Dance!  Coach Josh from the Downers Grove Park District will be our DJ for the evening.  There will be great music, fun games, lots of dancing, lemonade, and other treats! Don’t forget your non-perishable food item!

July 8:  Bingo Night and Toy Exchange!  Every child that attends this evening will need to bring a used (still in good condition) toy that they would be willing to give up.   All of the toys will be used as prizes for the bingo!  Everyone will leave with a “new” toy!!! 

July 15: Minute-To-Win-It Games!  Fun and Prizes!

July 22: Kid’s Trivia Night!  Bring your friends and impress them will all the things you know like:  What was the favorite food of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles?

July 29: Water Fun!  Let’s finish off the season of Wacky Wednesdays with some fun with water!  There will be a variety of activities involving water including a water slide!!!  Families are encouraged to come and join in the fun!

Imagine NO Malaria Free Throw Shooting Contest

Join us as we raise money and awareness for Imagine NO Malaria, an extraordinary effort by The United Methodist Church to end preventable deaths by malaria in Africa. $10 for 10 shots. Sponsored by the 5th and 6th graders.

4th Annual Easter Egg Hunt

DGFUMC Summer Camp 2015 - Power Up!

Power UpPower Up! Living in the Spirit is not just learning about, but more learning how — how to live as a follower of Jesus Christ powered up by the Holy Spirit! This church camp curriculum offers a wonder-filled opportunity for campers:

  • To experience Christian community and discover its source—the Holy Spirit!
  • To claim the gift of a new spirit within and to bear fruit as they choose living in the Spirit for themselves!
  • To realize they are never alone—Jesus’ gift of the Spirit is always with them!
  • To live with grace and forgiveness, unity and courage, joy and peace—powered up by the Holy Spirit!

DGFUMC is offering this summer camp experience for children and youth from 2nd to 9th grade at the Wesley Woods Conference Center, Williams Bay, WI from June 22 to June 26. The grade listed is the grade the student will be entering in the fall of 2015.

Registration for Summer Camp begins March 1 for DGFUMC members and April 1 for non-members. A $50 deposit is due at the time of registration with payment in full due by June 16. Space is limited, so register now!

Kid's Movie Night - Wreck-It Ralph

All children kindergarten through 6th grade are welcome to attend our Kid’s Movie Night featuring Wreck-It Ralph. Bring a friend and come have some fun! Children are invited to wear their pajamas and bring a blanket or sleeping bag. We will have popcorn from the Tivoli along with other goodies.

Winter/Spring Family Meal Subscription

The winter/spring Wednesday dinners are just around the corner. This is a great time to have a meal and connect with others in the church. The other benefits include not planning a meal and not cooking it!  There are 11 Wednesday meals that you may purchase (six meals are catered from Cozi Corner, three meals are wonderful home cooked meals from Don Safford, Bill Chalberg and others, and two meals come from John & Eddie’s Pizza).

Preschool Registration

PreschoolChurch members (those who have taken the Membership Class and joined First United Methodist Church) can take advantage of early registration for next year's Preschool on November 30 and December 2. Children must be either three or four years old by September 1 of 2015, with the classes beginning in early September and ending in the mid-May.
