Church Camp: All Things New

The First United Methodist Church of Downers Grove is offering a summer camp experience for children and youth from June 24 to 28, 2012.

Camp offers children and youth the opportunity for fellowship with other children. It offers youth and adults an experience of God’s creation while exploring nature. It offers everyone a chance to experience Christian community and develop skills for Christian living.

This year, the theme of the camp is All Things New. From the very beginning, God creates order out of chaos. With each new day light overcomes darkness, new life emerges, and we find new potential in our own lives. The Bible provides the good news for us that as God restored the lives of ancient people, God will renew us today as well. Our experiences at camp together show us that through Christ, God continues to do a new thing in us, both individually and collectively.

Day 1: A New Thing (Isaiah 43:19-21)

Day 2: New Shape (Jeremiah 18:1-6)

Day 3: New Expressions (Luke 10:38-42)

Day 4: New Community (Philippians 1:3-6)

Camp will be held at Wesley Woods Conference Center in Williams Bay, Wisconsin. Wesley Woods is owned and operated by the Northern Illinois Conference.

Do You See What I See? - A Family Service

Advent - our time of waiting and preparing for the birth of Christ - is celebrated by our lighting candles of the Advent wreath during the first four Sundays in December. This year, we look forward to a special service at the 9:30 and 11:00 a.m. Family Services on December 2, "Do You See What I See?" prepared by the Children and Family Ministries and the Chancel Choir. Carols, stories, and gifts for the children will light our way to the true meanings of our journey to the manger.

Everyone is encouraged to bring gifts of food, which the children will proudly deliver to the stable for a People's Resource Center offering.

With music and meditations for all, the whole church family is invited to share in this service as we welcome the Advent season.

The Giving Tree

The Giving TreeThe Giving Tree will be up in the Parlor beginning Sunday, November 11th. You have the opportunity to choose tags from several agencies in order to purchase gifts for both children and adults. The tags are marked with the name or initials of the agency.

All gifts going to PADS should be UNWRAPPED, but with the tag firmly attached.

Gifts to the other agencies work a little differently. Please select tags and put your name on the sign-out sheet.

The gifts for all the agencies other than PADS should be returned with the tags firmly attached NO LATER THAN NOON ON SUNDAY, DECEMBER 2nd. Gifts for PADS will continue to be collected into December.

If you have any questions, please contact Nancy Bifulco by email or phone (630-241-3530).

The Children and Family Ministries Work Area and the Church and Society Work Area sponsor the Giving Tree project. Over 300 gifts go to needy children, youth, and adults in our township and across the Northern Illinois Conference. We hope that you will be able to help.

Thank you!
