Educational Programs

Through Christian education opportunities, First United Methodist Church, Downers Grove promotes and develops new, inspirational and informative programs for people of all ages. Our purpose is to provide an educational foundation to further the understanding of how best to serve God in this world.

Children's Education

DGFUMC provides a range of educational opportunities for children of all ages, including nursery care provided during worship hours, Pathfinders (Sunday School), and midweek family fellowship that is linked to children's choir rehearsals. The goal is to help children grow in faith, and become familiar with the Bible through a variety of methods, including storytelling and drama, music, video, games, science, cooking and art.

Onward Bound Program

The Onward Bound program seeks to help young people in 7th and 8th grade become Disciples for Christ, through a combination of fellowship time, service opportunities, small group work, and recreation. The program culminates at the end of the 8th grade year with the student's decision to become a full and responsible church member at a confirmation ceremony.

The Adult Education work area provides and promotes regular, special, and unique educational opportunities that challenge the mind, enliven the spirit and lead to a deeper understanding of God, as revealed in Jesus Christ, through a personal and faith community commitment to faithful witness and compassionate service.
