A Real Exercise in True Democracy

DuPage United, an organization that connects many faith-based communities (churches, synagogues, and mosques) and other non-profit agencies to produce action on issues that urgently need addressing in the public arena. DGFUMC has been one of those faith communities for many years, coordinated through the Mission, Justice and Community Work Area.

On March 11, DuPage United is helping to organize a forum, to which all the candidates for Attorney General in this year's Illinois elections have been invited, providing us with an opportunity to find out where they stand on a number of topics, such as:

  1. Ending the incarceration of innocent people experiencing addiction and/or mental illness
  2. Building affordable and accessible housing for  individuals, families, and young adults
  3. Insuring humane and legal treatment of immigrants and refugees throughout Illinois
  4. Demanding accountability from gun manufacturers on development of “smart” guns and sales to “crime-gun” dealers

This is the first election in 15 years that is truly open, so this is an excellent opportunity to ensure that whoever wins is aware of our concerns and to persuade them to act in ways that honor our commitment to social justice and protect the most vulnerable in our community.

The forum will be in Maine East High School in Park Ridge (map). If you are interested in attending this forum, please register so that we can keep you updated on the event and organize transport if you need it.
