1 Corinthians 3

Hey again,

This week is 1 Corinthians 3.

This chapter is a little harder to split up into nice little sections, so we are gonna hit up a few separate themes that come up instead.

The first theme is that of a new Christian. In the first few verses of the chapter Paul talks about the new Christians of Corinth using the analogy of a baby. When a baby is born, obviously it cannot handle a steak dinner right away. The baby has to drink milk and then eventually soft food and then finally steak (or celery, for you vegetarian readers)

1 Corinthians 2

Hey friends.

So this week is all about 1 Corinthians 2, which is one of my favorite chapters to talk about.

It splits into two major sections: v1-5 and v6-16.

The first section (v1-5) is all about proclaiming Christ.

In v3 Paul talks about coming in weakness and fear and trembling. This, plus some other verses in other books, leads some scholars to think that perhaps Paul had some sort of physical problem – like maybe a stutter or something. He points it out because he wants to emphasize that all the power of his message comes from JESUS!

Successful Year for Youth InTent Program

Youth InTentThere were many weddings, graduations, birthdays and anniversaries this year, meaning a busy year for Don Dunham, Bruce Ritter, 39 youth and a number of parents who assisted in the Youth InTent program this year. Nearly $20,000 in tents, tables and chairs rentals from 63 clients provided revenue to the youth program and earned participating students credit toward future mission trips and choir tours. Three new tents were purchased to keep up with the demand. There were several weekends when practically the entire inventory of eight tents, 26 tables and 200 chairs were in use and others where the same tent was set-up and taken down multiple times over a two or three day span. A very special word of gratitude is expressed to Tim Hopkins, who for the third straight year graciously donated the use of his utility van for towing the trailer and storing chairs.

If anyone knows of an available cargo van for 2012, please contact Don Dunham.

Information about the program is available in the church office and on the web site.

1 Corinthians 1

Hey guys!

I’ve never written a blog before, and this is my second try – the first one was a bit of a snooze-fest.

Basically this is a reflection for the Senior High peeps at DGFUMC on the book of 1 Corinthians.

We’re going to try and burn through a chapter a week, but some chapters have simply too much awesomeness for just one hour of discussion.

Praise Break

Praise Break

Praise Break! is exactly what it sounds like: a break from the craziness of life to praise God. We understand that the pressures of middle school and high school can leave us gasping for a breath of fresh air.

Praise Break is a contemporary worship service that lasts for no more than 45 minutes followed by a brief time of fellowship with snacks and drinks available.

The entire worship service is sandwiched between the Junior High Youth Meeting (at 4pm) and the Senior High Bible Study (at 6pm). If your schedule seems too packed for church, all the more reasons to take a break! In these hectic times, never forget to make time for God - just as God never forgets to make time for you!
