The Youth Ministry Program of First United Methodist Church in Downers Grove seeks to provide opportunities to grow in faith, connect with others, and nurture service oriented individuals to live out Christ's love in the world. We provide a number of opportunities for youth in the community.

Mission, Outreach, Justice, Mercy

United Church of Rogers ParkThe Youth of DGFUMC, whether they know it or not, are in the mission field all the time, everyday. Just as we all are. Mission no longer means simply picking up a hammer, drill, screw driver, paint brush or other tool and using it to the best of your ability to repair something. Mission is about how we act in public. How people see us. How we accept others. Showing the love of Christ to those in the church and those we meet on the street, at work and at school.

On Sunday afternoon, February 27, Deacon Wes Dorr and Breanne Dahl, both from the United Church of Rogers Park, will meet with students in 6th through 12th grade to talk about the mission and ministry of the church they serve. This summer both our Jr. High and High School mission teams will be working with United Church of Rogers Park. The afternoon starts with lunch at 12:15PM.

Please RSVP to Nick.

Ignite!

The Open Door

The youth group has a new name! And so does its home!

Ignite

The youth group is now called Ignite, with the goal of being the spark that starts the fire. Our hope is that being a member of Ignite will change kids' lives and move them to help change the lives of their friends. The purpose of the United Methodist Church is to make disciples for Jesus Christ. Ignite will help to do that by building community through fun, fellowship and service.

The Open Door

The youth center is now called The Open Door to show that everyone is welcome. OK, the big joke is that The Open Door is locked most of the time. As we have found in the last few months, if the door is unlocked, furniture and equipment walks off and vandalism happens. But we are having fun in The Open Door. Movie nights, two weeks of watching the Bears in the NFL Playoffs, OB classes, playing pool and air hockey.

Our latest improvement to The Open Door is to install black-out shades so the video system can be used during the day. So far the Youth Ministries Work Area has spent $525 buying them. If any one would like to help offset that cost the youth are happy to accept donations!

Tail Gate Party

Bears vs Green Bay PackersCome and join us in the Open Door this Sunday as we watch the game of the season, the Chicago Bears taking on the Green Bay Packers in Soldier Field for the NFC Championship. Bears and Packers fans all welcome!

Please bring along a snack to share. Soda will be provided.

Then we should have another reason to have a party here in the Open Door on February 6th!
