The Youth Ministry Program of First United Methodist Church in Downers Grove seeks to provide opportunities to grow in faith, connect with others, and nurture service oriented individuals to live out Christ's love in the world. We provide a number of opportunities for youth in the community.

Confirmation Classes

Our Confirmation preparatory program for 7th & 8th grade students meets on Sundays in person this fall. We will add in-person service projects, fellowship events, and worship experiences as the coronavirus situation improves. 

CLASSES

7th Grade Class meets from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. 
8th Grade Class meets from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. 

SERVICE

Assist our pastors during Sunday 10:00 a.m. worship by signing up for acolyte responsibilites. SIgn up here.

Youth Camp Out at Church

Saturday, July 10 to Sunday, July 11
Join Deacon Wes and your church friends as we camp out at the church from Saturday, July 10 at 6:00 p.m. to Sunday, July 11 at 9:30 a.m.

We will set up one of our party tents in the yard next to the parking lot for sleeping. Activities will include a hot dog and hamburger dinner on the grill, campfire with s’mores, games, outdoor movie, and time for fellowship with one another. If the weather is poor, we will turn it into a "lock in" so we will hold the event rain or shine!

2021 DGFUMC Scholarship Application

Each year, DGFUMC awards scholarships to college students who have been involved in our church and who have completed at least one year of college. Scholarship application season begins on May 1. 

Students interested in applying for the scholarship may fill out an application (available below or by request), Download and print out the scholarship and email the completed form to Carolyn Donnelly at carolyn@dgfumc.org by Tuesday, July 6. Recipients will be announced in July and honored at a 10:00 a.m. worship service in August.

Confirmed in Christ

Throughout my time as a youth pastor, here and with previous congregations, I look forward to confirmation every year. For two years, our soon-to-be freshman have gathered together to study the Bible, learn Methodist theology and history, and grapple with their relationship with the Church and with God. This Sunday, they choose to be confirmed. They choose to commit themselves to growing in relationship with Christ and with our congregation.

“People, Get Ready!” for our 50th Chapel Choir Tour Celebration which is definitely “A Reason to Rejoice” on June 17-19, 2022. “Right Now” our planning committee is launching registration for this special weekend.

Chapel Choir members and alumni along with choir directors, chaperones, youth leaders, ministers and parents are invited to participant in exciting events throughout the weekend. Spouses and significant others are welcome to register for all of the events!

~ Early Bird: $40 per person / April 1: $50 per person. If needed, register for Friday evening childcare at the church.

Saturday, June 13: 9:00 – 11:30 am – “Back to the Basics” Chapel Choir Rehearsal at DGFUMC. After the rehearsal, join us for the “Celebrate Life” Together Boxed Lunch.

Confirmation Class

Our Confirmation Preparatory Program for 7th & 8th Grade students meets on Sundays and includes classes, modern worship services, local service projects, and fellowship events.

8th Grade Class meets from 4:00 - 5:00 p.m. 
7th & 8th Grade Classes meet for a Fellowship Snack/Dinner from    5:00 - 5:30 p.m. 
7th Grade Class meets from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m.

Sundays, February 2, 9, 16, and 23

MODERN WORSHIP SERVICES

January 19 from 4:00 - 5:00 p.m. For all 7th and 8th grade Confirmation students. 

Spaghetti dinner with mentors follows from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m.

ASH WEDNESDAY WORSHIP SERVICE

February 26 - For all 7th and 8th grade Confirmation students. 

7:00 p.m. (Confirmation class needs to arrive by 6:30 p.m.)

Pancake Breakfast - Youth Activities Fundraiser

PancakesBe sure to make plans to stop by the gym before or after the 10:00 a.m.  service to continue in fellowship and enjoy a Pancake Breakfast. Join us to meet new people, reconnect with old friends! Invite your neighbors, friends, and family to come with you too!

Free-will donations support youth activities, such as the Chapel Choir Tour and Youth Mission Trips.
