Youth Home Page

The Youth Ministry Program of First United Methodist Church in Downers Grove seeks to provide opportunities to grow in faith, connect with others, and nurture service oriented individuals to live out Christ's love in the world. We provide a number of opportunities for youth in the community.

Meet our new Youth Minister

Katie BartholomewOn April 1, Katie Bartholomew will join our church staff as Youth Minister.

Katie grew up near Cleveland, Ohio graduating from Brecksville- Broadview Heights High School. She has a Bachelors Degree in liberal arts with a concentration in religion from Baldwin-Wallace College located in Berea, Ohio where she was an honor society member.

She learned the ins and outs of youth ministry as a Youth Ministry Intern at the Brecksville United Methodist Church, serving as a chaperone at various events, leading Bible study, developing educational curriculum, teaching Sunday School classes, and helping coordinate Vacation Bible School.

Katie is currently enrolled in graduate classes focused on the Old Testament at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston.

Beginning on April 1 Katie will work with our intern JJ Mannschreck and John Smoke to plan for the summer youth activities and to get to know our youth and their families.

Katie will assume full-time responsibilities for our church after her classes are completed in May. Her enthusiasm and excitement about fostering our youth ministry promises to be contagious.

30 Hour Famine!

Youth come to the Church on Friday afternoon after school and stay through the night until about 4:30pm on Saturday. There will be tons of games and group activities along with some free time and maybe even some sleeping! We are flexible on scheduling if people need to come late, leave early or leave for a time and come back. After our famine is over, we will break our fast together with a community meal! Youth are encouraged to raise donations to send to the hungry, but they can also just come to learn and have some fun! For more information check out www.30hourfamine.org or contact JJ Mannschreck.
