Need, Want, and Learning the Way
Throughout my life, I have been fortunate to have some truly incredible teachers. Each of these teachers had their own gifts. My elementary music school teacher? So very fun and able to connect with children in a way that had us all wanting to participate. My critical thinking professor in college? He cared enough to see the talents and needs of each student and support them in living out their potential, and through personal crises. My seminary Old Testament professor? The incredible gift of bringing the Bible alive and inspiring us to think critically about the role of scripture in the world.
These are just a few of the teachers who have impacted my life. When I think about them, each is different. At the same time though, all of them cared deeply for their students and were passionate about their subject area. In this week's reading from Corinthians (1 Corinthians 3:1–9), it sounds like the people of Corinth also have some fabulous teachers but are maybe losing sight of what it is that their teachers are trying to share with them. Who were the teachers that made a difference in your life? In what ways have their lessons stuck with you even now?
