Being Faithful to God
We are the children of God. As children, we are aware of how we act in relationship to our God. We find ourselves doing things that we know are honorable and helpful to others and for our own life. We reach out to help those in financial distress and those who are broken by death and the hardships in their lives spiritually, emotionally, and physically. We pray to God, learn and meditate on God's words, and seek to lift up and strengthen others to do the same. We diligently support our family and friends, especially those who are sick or who need our close attention to deal with their problems. God leads us to do these acts of love.
We are in the Lenten season, a time of spiritual reflection from personal, familial, and societal perspectives. It's a time to identify the ways that we are not keeping the best godly practices, as well as those of the greater society, that we should be doing regularly and be the best that we can be as God's children. One of the ways that we can form the best practices is to be more faithful to God. "Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen." Hebrews 11:1 (NRSV)
Faith gives commitment, composure, and balance as we journey through life's disasters even during times of episodic and long-term hardships and also triumphs during periods of great of joy. When there is a lack of faith, there is mistrust, fickleness, and volatility. The evidence of unfaithfulness is seen when we are living a roller coaster lifestyle. Where every major success is met with over-the-top happiness and every significant failure or misfortune brings intense despair. A lack of faith is also evidenced by our quickness to argue, complain and challenge God regarding our circumstances on a regular basis.
Read Luke 4:1-13 where Jesus came face to face with the most intense adversary of all after he began his active ministry. Read of how he dealt with that intense attack of his spirit, mind, and body after fasting for 40 days.
