Music to Heal the Soul

One of our church members happened to be sharing about some of the struggles and responsibilities that were currently a part of her life. And then she made an interesting comment. She said "that's one of the reasons I'm singing with the Choir, and taking the time to rehearse for the Cantata Sunday. The music of 'The Holy Spirit Mass' is beautiful, and when I sing it, it's like therapy - it nourishes my soul."

I've heard other similar comments about the music we'll hear at the 9:30 and 11:00 services on Sunday - that it is exceptionally moving and beautiful. This "Holy Spirit Mass - Together in Hope" was composed just last year by a Norwegian composer, Kim Andre Arnesen, to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. Its intent is to emphasize through music the underlying unity in Christ that all Christians, around the world, share, in spite of ecclesiastical differences - the Spirit that is the soul of the Church. "The music soars!" said another of our members this week. "It just does something to you."

We thank the Chancel Choir, Cantata Orchestra, and Support Team for the hours of care, creativity, practice, and spiritual reflection that have been given to prepare to share, through song and visual image, "The Holy Spirit Mass" with us on Sunday. You won't want to miss this time of inspiration - and music that "heals the soul."
