A "Special" Sunday

We had one of those unexpectedly "special" Sundays last weekend, on February 1 - not something designated on the denominational calendar, but definitely decreed by our  Saturday night snowstorm, predicted to turn into our Sunday afternoon near-blizzard.

Of course, many of our congregation were homebound that day, with snow-filled driveways and blocked neighborhood streets.

But still, a surprising number of people did choose and manage to come to worship. Jeans and boots were the predominant (and wise!) fashion choice. As we gathered, we had a special sense of the goodness of being together as Christ's people.

I want to say a particular word of thanks to the choirs who sang that day - the Chapel Choir at 9:30, and the Chancel and Connection Choirs at 11:00. They did not have to come in the midst of that weather. But they did. And they refreshed us all with music that carried us into the week ahead with renewed warmth and strength.

By all current weather predictions, this Sunday, February 8, will be an easier day to make the trek to worship.

For any of us who could use a little pep talk on keeping those New Year's resolutions, Sunday's scripture focus, 1 Corinthians 9:24-27, and Jim's message, "What Are We Getting in Shape For?" will give us some words to ponder and put into practice.
