Confirmation Sunday

Wow! Thank you to all who made our Easter celebration such a success - from our ushers who welcomed both members and visitors while trying to find seats for everyone, to those working the parking lot trying to park cars, to all the musicians who prepared long and hard for this special day. Also a very special thank you to the Worship work area for getting all of the lilies to face forward and blow their trumpets high, and generally making the sanctuary look beautiful.

This Sunday at our 8:15 & 9:30 worship services, I will be preaching on 1 Peter 1:3-9. This in an excerpt from the First Letter of Peter appealing to exiled Christian believers to not turn away from the Gospel. I usually try to avoid these letters of the early church as often they contain the prejudices of the writers that don't fit anymore. This is especially true of all the lists of behaviors. So I dodged a bullet as this passage is short and straight forward. However, I was intrigued by the use of the word inheritance in this scripture and am interested to see where these verses take us.

At our 11:00 service we will welcome our 2017 Confirmands to our church family. This special service will be followed by a brief reception in the parlor to celebrate this important step on our youth's faith journey with Christ.

The weather this week has been quite springlike wavering back and forth between summer temps and early spring. This kind of weather calls us outside. For those who love to dig around in dirt at this time of year, our Environmental Stewardship work area is hosting a Spring Garden Clean-up in the Prayer Garden this Sunday at 1:00 p.m. All are invited to join in clearing out the old weeds and overgrowth to make room for new plantings.
