Pastor Reflections

If you stopped by church this week you no doubt noticed the rumblings and patter of feet going from one spot to another as Vacation Bible School ran through each morning.

It was fun to watch the excitement on the faces of the kids and the energy carrying them from one learning station to the next as they took bible stories and mixed them up with life, and summer; discovering in deeper and deeper ways the ways in which their lives are captured by wonder and held by a love we know as God.

Last weekend, we also welcomed home our Senior High Mission Folk after a mission workout in Cincinnati. No doubt they had their eyes opened, their compassion enlarged and their self-understandings enlarged as they shared their skills and probably discover some new ones while working.

This Sunday in worship, I will be sharing the story from Luke 10 concerning two sisters, Mary and Martha and the different ways they each welcomed Jesus into their home and the conflict it created. We will reflect on why these sisters used Jesus as a referee to settle their dispute. We will also consider what constitutes anxiety in this story and how does it creep into our lives.

We will wrestle with these questions and shed light as to what this story might say to us today. We hope to see you there.
