Summertime

The scripture this Sunday is John 5:2-18 and tells the story of Jesus healing a man on the Sabbath who had waited 38 years to be healed as he lay by a pool of water. I hope to tease some meanings from it for today as we listen to Jesus ask the guy, "what do you want?"

Thank you to everyone who came out Monday evening to hear the Pure Sound Youth Choir from Bethany United Methodist Church in Austin, TX, a small, but powerful ensemble of singers.

This week also saw many of our youth and adult members travel to Wesley Woods for church camp. It sounded like the weather stayed dry and not too hot as they learned new skills, exposed their imaginations to Christ and took advantage of the nearby lake for boating, floating and, of course, swimming.

Summertime, weather permitting, is the time to get outside and take in the sights of the big outdoors. I think the root meaning of salvation also speaks to being in a large place, a place we call home. Let's greet our neighbors this summer and make it home for all.
