Toward a larger life
Advent is the hoping and waiting for the coming of Christ. Jesus has carved our names beside his into the trunk of a tree. Jesus is kneeling beside us, whispering into our memory and imagination to a life that he has searched us out for and made possible for us to enter.
John, the Baptist, was a voice crying in the wilderness, a living mystery whose life made no sense if Jesus was not around. John was a witness, just as everyone is a witness, and what really matters about us is to what and to whom we are a witness. We are forever demonstrating with our words and actions what we deem to be true, what we claim as a value.
This Sunday I am going to focus on Luke 3:7-18 and John's message for peace, joy, love and justice and what might it mean to steal away toward a larger life.
