The Walls Come a Tumbling Down

This week marks the start of Pentecost, the season in which the spirit of God broke down the walls that create misunderstanding. Whereas there are those who want to build walls, Pentecost runs counter to that seeking to promote understanding and acceptance amid diversity. On Sunday morning, I will preach on the Pentecost Story found in Acts chapter 2.  We often read this story in truncated form focusing on the spirit that created understanding, but forget to mention the economic dimensions to Pentecost, how the sharing of gifts created a new community. To help mark the beginning of Pentecost, you are encouraged to wear red to church on Sunday morning.

Also this Sunday we begin our Summer Worship Service hours. Our early service will start at 8:30 a.m. and, for this week only, will be held in the chapel. At our 10:00 a.m. service, we will recognize our 2017 high school graduates. We will also have a time at this service to recognize our college grads. Before and after the 10:00 service, join us for good food and fellowship in the gym as the youth host a Pancake Breakfast in support of our your ministry activities.

During the week be sure to join us as we welcome the Celebration Singers Youth Choir from First UMC in Hurst, TX for a Thursday night concert on June 8 at 7:00 p.m. The Choir will also be joining us for our 8:30 a.m. worship service on Sunday, June 11.

It is summer now, the season for warmth heart and temps.
