Friday Night at the Movies

PLEASE NOTE TIME CHANGE!

We start off this new year with Amadeus, a 1984 film adaptation of a hugely successful Broadway play of the same name by Peter Shaffer.  Set in the 18th century, it is a somewhat fictionalized story of the rivalry between genius composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Antonio Salieri, a successful composer in his own right.  Annoyed by Mozart's gauche behavior and (to Salieri) unearned acclaim given by the emperor Joseph II, Salieri acknowledges the young composer's brilliance but pursues a jealous vendetta against the young man nevertheless.  An immensely popular film, Amadeus won eight Oscars, including best picture and best actor for F. Murray Abraham, who plays Salieri.   The soundtrack underscores Mozart's works beautifully.

Tom Babler will present the movie and lead our post-film discussion.  Snacks, desserts and soft drinks will be on hand; a $2 donation is suggested.

PLEASE NOTE THAT DUE TO THE LENGTH OF THE FILM, WE ARE STARTING ONE-HALF HOUR EARLIER THAN USUAL!
