Opioids and You
In the late 1990’s pharmaceutical companies reassured the medical community that patients would not become addicted to opioid pain relievers and health care providers began to prescribe them at greater rates. In 2016, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services found that opioid overdoses caused more than 42,000 deaths, 116 each day, and in 2017 they declared a public health emergency to combat the opioid crisis.
Dr. Robert Roose, son of Tom and Rosie Roose will be joining us on September 23rd at 9:30 am to talk about the opioid crisis. Dr. Robert Roose serves as the Vice President of Behavioral Health for Mercy Medical Center in Springfield Massachusetts, 2012 Addiction Medicine Physician of the year in NY, the recipient of numerous awards including the Western Mass. Outstanding Commitment to the Field of Substance Use Disorder award, author of numerous publications on addiction treatment and featured on an award winning documentary, “The Fix: The Healing Is Mutual” will be speaking to us on opioids, what they are, and how to protect yourself from becoming addicted.
