Friday Night at the Movies
We start off the new year with Marshall, a 2017 biographical legal drama about the early career of Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall. Starring Chadwick Boseman in the title role, the story depicts the young NAACP lawyer in one of his first cases, in which he attempts to defend a young African-American chauffeur accused of raping a wealthy white woman, played by Kate Hudson. As the trial commences, a racist white judge, played by James Cromwell, attempts to block Marshall from significant participation as defense counsel. How Marshall gets around this roadblock and helps mount a compelling search for the truth makes for an excellent story of the beginnings of a stellar legal career.
Kay Mundy and Owen Bates will present the movie and lead our post-film discussion. Sign up now by calling or visiting the church office, as enrollment is limited to 20 participants. A $2 donation is suggested to help defray the cost of snacks, beverages, and dessert.
