Friday Night at the Movies

“When Tony Lip, a bouncer from an Italian-American neighborhood in the Bronx, is hired to drive Dr. Don Shirley, a world-class Black pianist, on a concert tour from Manhattan to the Deep South, they must rely on “The Green Book” to guide them to the few establishments that were then safe for African Americans.” (Quote from Rotten Tomatoes movie review site.)

Our December film, Green Book, encompasses themes of racism, danger, humanity, and humor as it explores the relationship between these two gentlemen on their journey through the deep south in 1962. Starring Vigo Mortensen as Tony and Mahershala Ali as Dr. Shirley, the movie received numerous award nominations and won three Oscars, including Best Picture for 2018 and Best Supporting Actor for Ali. You won’t want to miss this compelling and entertaining film!

Film expert Sue Thornquist will be our discussion leader, and as usual we will enjoy snacks, drinks, and dessert during and after the film. Sign up by phone at 630.968.7120 or in person in the church office as seats are limited to 20 people. A $2 donation is suggested to cover snacks, beverages, and dessert. See you at the movies!
