Praising and Honoring God
The Chapel Choir of Downers Grove First United Methodist Church is having a 50th Reunion this weekend. Many alumni, past directors, former church members, and pastors will be here in person or in spirit reuniting old friends, recalling old memories, and hopefully, making new friends and creating new memories for the next 50 years!
This choral reunion will provide a perfect place and space for a blessed spiritual experience for all who attend, especially for the former Chapel Choir members and their former directors. They will relive and revive many of the feelings that were joyous and made being part of the Chapel Choir special.
The plans for the 50th Reunion have been in the making for approximately four years, due to the hardships of the pandemic. Now those long-awaited plans are about to be realized this weekend, and there will be much to become nostalgic about. When everyone gets together and the singing begins, including the rehearsals, the outpouring of emotions will remind everyone involved that the experiences that they have been reliving in their minds, will culminate in a spiritual revival that will ultimately praise and honor the love of God that has made all this possible.
It was the praising and honoring of God that was, and still is, at the heart of all that the Chapel Choir sang, and sings, about, and then shared in the various cities that they visited on their tours for the entire time the Chapel Choir has been in existence. It's wonderful that the tradition of lifting God's love up for all people of every kind continues today!
With all that in mind, and as the excitement continues to build for this 50th reunion, there is something else that will be on the minds and hearts of everyone who will attend in person or on our live stream, and that is, how much will the 50th Chapel Choir Reunion worship service touch the lives of the alumni, past directors, and all others who attend in person, witness it live online or on replay?
While no one can really know the answer to that question, if we read the Bible passage that will be read in worship from Matthew 22:15-22, we can have our minds and spirits be aligned through God's word which focuses on this question among others, "Of all that we possess and give, what belongs to God?"
