Opinion Poll Voting

Opinion Poll Voting
We will hold our Opinion Poll Voting next Sunday, October 13 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Come to the Preschool (Rm 101) before or after worship to fill out a ballot.

We will be voting on three items regarding our church in the future:

Should our church support full acceptance and inclusion of all people?
Should our church support same-sex marriage?
Should our church support ordination into the ministry of people who identify as LGBTQI?

If you are unable to vote in person and would like to do so, an electronic/online option is available beginning today through next Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

Please click on this link:

If you are unable to vote in person or online, you may request a "proxy," a person to vote your wishes on your behalf. You may choose your own proxy and provide them with your name, address, and signature on a piece of paper, or call the office so that we can put you in touch with someone who has volunteered to help as a proxy.

Town Hall Meetings

We will be holding Town Hall Meetings to enable members of our DGFUMC worshiping community to express where they stand on the issue of full acceptance and inclusion of all people and to express your will about supporting same sex marriage and the ordination into the ministry of people who identify as being LGBTQI. Letters were mailed to each home in late August to begin the process and now we seek the input of members of our worshiping community.

Please join us at one of these important Town Hall meetings. Your church leadership wants to hear from you! Meetings are scheduled for:

Sunday, September 29 at 1:00 p.m.
Monday, September 30 at 7:00 p.m.
and Sunday, October 6 at 1:00 p.m.

Please note that you need only attend one Town Hall meeting time.

Why Town Hall Meetings?

Since the vote that took place at the Special Session of the General Conference of the UMC in February of this year, in which we found our denomination stretched to polar ends regarding the issue of full inclusion of those in the LGBTQ community, there has been uncertainty in the UMC concerning which direction the UMC will go. The final count ended up with the delegates in support of the Traditional Plan. That meant there would be neither full acceptance nor full inclusion of our lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex siblings worldwide in the UMC denomination beginning in 2020.

Northern Illinois Open Letter to the Bishop

Church members are welcome to sign an open letter to Bishop Sally Dyck, which expresses concern for the harm done by the Special Session of General Conference to LGBTQIA+ persons and the damage to all of us who seek to worship in an inclusive church. In the past week, over 600 people from all over the Northern Illinois Conference have signed in support. If you wish to sign, there is a form at the bottom of the letter where you can add your name.
