Reminder to Share Your Extra Vegetables on Sundays!

VegetablesIf you are growing tomatoes and/or peppers from the plant giveaway or if you have any extra produce in your home garden, please remember to bring the vegetables to church on Sunday and leave them in the big basket in the parlor.  The Missions Work Area will drop them off at the PRC food pantry in Westmont so that our neighbors in need can enjoy fresh garden produce.

UMW Diaper Drive

FEBRUARY DIAPER DRIVE

Sarah Circle is having a February Diaper Drive.

Peoples Resource Center in Westmont is in desperate need of children's diapers.  Families who acquire weekly supplies at PRC are allocated a handful of diapers at a time.

Donations will be accepted throughout the month of February at the PRC bin located in the church office and in a red labeled box located in the church parlor on Sunday mornings.

Please consider helping out with this worthwhile initiative.

Children Will Learn About Helping Others

Kim Holler, Missions Work Area member, is teaching a “helping others” segment for children in grades 1-4 in Sunday School classes this fall. She will focus on how and why we help at the People's Resource Center, especially giving food and gifts to make birthday bags for children in need.

To complement her teaching, the Missions Work Area will make a $300 donation to the PRC to also be used for children's birthday bags.

Sunday School students will be encouraged to donate: cakes mixes, tubs of frosting, new small toys for all ages and gift bags. Members of the congregation are also encouraged to help in this effort by donating from the above list. Place donations in the "PRC Birthday Box" which will be next to the regular PRC bin near the church office.

Rally Day 2012!!!

Come one, come all! Help us kick off the beginning of our new quarter and the return of the 8:15, 9:30, and 11:00 worship services and our Chapel and Chancel Choirs this Sunday, September 9!

Rally Day usually marks the beginning of Sunday school classes for all ages. This year, however, we are planning something a little different. Sunday school will not begin until September 16 because of a special Rally Day worship service for all ages. Following the worship service, we have other things planned as well. See the schedule below:

  • 8:15 - Rally Day Worship in the Chapel
  • 9:30 - Rally Day Worship in the Sanctuary
  • 11:00 - Rally Day Worship in the Sanctuary
  • 12:00 - Lunch - $5/adult, $3/child 12 and under, sign up for lunch by calling or emailing the church office
  • 12:45 - Help set up tables for Sweet Repeat, many hands make light work!
  • 2:00 - Movie at the Tivoli: The Lorax, doors open at 1:30 with the movie starting at 2:00. Movie is free to all. Children who attend worship will receive a coupon for a free Kiddie Combo at the Tivoli
  • 4:00 - Junior High Ignite
  • 6:00 - Senior High Ignite

All Church Day of Service

The Church and Society Work Area is sponsoring our third annual day of service to the community...and we really need more volunteers to help do chores at Family Shelter or a Downers Grove Park District site! Can you help?

Those who are volunteering at People's Resource Center, please join us at 7:30 in the morning for a light breakfast of coffee, juice and donuts, and a short prayer service at the church. All others will gather at 8:30 for a light breakfast and short prayer service before heading out for a morning of chores and service with either Family Shelter or the Downers Grove Park District. We will also offer opportunities for service at the church, including freshening up of the Sanctuary for Rally Day, some needed touches on the landscaping, and finishing the cleaning of the classrooms.

Please call the church office to sign up for our third annual All Church Day of Service!

Extra Produce in Your Home Garden?

You can share it with the People's Resource Center in Westmont.

  • 649 Blackhawk Drive, north of Ogden Avenue, about 3 blocks east of Cass Avenue
  • Monday through Thursday: 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
    Saturday: 7:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
  • If the back door to the Pantry is open, just walk in and tell someone you have fresh produce donations or go to the front desk for assistance

Please Save Your Coupon Inserts

If, like me, you just toss your newspaper coupon inserts into the recycling bin, please bring them to church instead. A couple of "extreme couponers" from Downers Grove painstakingly clip and collate coupons, then go through store ads to get the best bargains. They donate all of their bounty to the People's Resource Center in Westmont. This week alone, they brought in 50 deodorants, 22 bottles of shampoo, and more!

To help them with this mission, please bring your coupon inserts to the box by the PRC collection bin outside the church office. Thanks!

Bucket Sundays

Spring is here and it is time for spring cleaning as well as our Church and Society Work Area's annual cleaning supply drive for the PRC!

We will be handing out buckets on April 15 and 22. We ask you to take a bucket and fill it with cleaning supplies. Each bucket will have a list of suggested supplies in it. Please return the filled buckets to the church by Sunday, April 29.

Thank you for your support!
