Foundations: Roots of Worship and the Jewish Experience

Led by Cindy MichlassiCindy Michelassi.

Cindy has been song leading in Chicago’s Western Suburbs for 16 years. She provides music for Shabbat services, Family services, Tot Shabbat, Holiday services and Bar and Bat Mitzvah services. She has worked as the music specialist for religious schools, programs, camps, and retreats.

Cindy is currently serving as the song leader for Congregation Etz Chaim in Lombard. She also provides musical leadership for monthly Jewish Renewal services at Temple B’nai Israel in Aurora.

YAH: Pizza Lunch

The Young-at-Heart group for senior adults will get together on Wednesday, February 9, 2011, for a Pizza Lunch followed by a movie and popcorn. The group will gather at noon in Chapel Hall for lunch. The cost will be $5.00 per person.

You may make a reservation in the Parlor on Sunday mornings or by contacting Marilou Welch.

To make and distribute 175 handmade quilts to members of our community who are in need or in distress

How

By giving quilts to private and community organizations who work with those in need.

What You Can Do

  1. Make a crib, child or lap quilt to donate to the project (download pattern below)
  2. Make a quilt top that SSQ can finish - Tops must be finished by September 4, 2011 (download guidelines below)
  3. Donate quilting cotton or batting to SSQ
  4. Donate 6 1/2 inch quilting cotton squares to SSQ
  5. Contribute toward the purchase of fabric and batting

Friday Night at the Movies: Shadowlands

ShadowlandsThe Reverend Ermalou Roller will present Shadowlands, an Oscar-nominated 1993 biographical film about the love between the British writer C.S. Lewis and his American-born wife, the poet Joy Gresham. Movie critics have hailed the award-winning performances of Anthony Hopkins as Lewis and Debra Winger as Gresham.

Sign up in the church office beginning Monday, January 3. A $2 donation is suggested to cover soft drinks, popcorn, dessert, and coffee.
