New Year's Day Service

New Year's Day we will offer one service at 10:00. It will be a service combining scripture lessons and carols along with Wesley’s Covenant renewal. You will be asked to participate by selecting a favorite carol for all to sing. We will also share Communion together for the first time in the new year.

Advent Devotion - Week Two

Greta McDonaldOur younger grandson, 14 months old, is just learning to talk. He's figured out "mama," and surprised his parents last week when, while watching his 3-year-old brother circle the house pretending to be a train, he came up with a second "word" -- "choo-choo." Then, a couple of days ago, as he overheard a Christmas program on television, he added to his verbal repertoire "Ho-Ho-Ho."

The Chancel Choir of the First United Methodist Church presents Ralph Vaughan Williams' cantata Hodie (This Day). This is Vaughan Williams' last major choral work, a vivid setting of the Nativity story interwoven with Christmas poetry by Milton, Hardy, and George Herbert. The music encompasses a wide variety of styles, from serene mysticism and pastoral solos to thrilling brass fanfares and choral climaxes. The work, which was composed for the Three Choirs Festival in England and premiered in Worcester Cathedral in 1954, will be performed by our 65-voice choir and soloists accompanied by full orchestra, all led by Diane Hires.
