Lenten Season Parables Study

Join us for a short study of a few of Jesus' parables during this Lenten Season!

Each week we will be invited to focus on one of Jesus' parables. Each week's parable will be available on Sunday mornings and will include a few questions to get you thinking. The parables and questions will also be available online at dgfumc.org.

You may contemplate the questions individually, share comments with others on our DGFUMC Facebook page and/or continue the conversation in a group setting offered during Lent. Conversations will be offered on Sunday mornings at 9:00 a.m. in the library (beginning February 14), during Wednesday dinners and each Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. in Room 213 (beginning February 17). All sessions will run a half hour long.

Wednesday Morning Women's Bible Study

What are you giving up for Lent? Have you ever considered giving up something that's BAD for you? The Women's Bible Study will tackle a new Lenten study that encourages us to give up something negative (think envy or bitterness or a bad habit) and transfer that energy to something life-giving.

Join us as we start our discussion on Wednesday, January 27, at 9:00 a.m. in Room 213. We will introduce the study and weekly schedule for the next session. Suggested donation for study book is $10. Babysitting provided.

Sunday Evening Advent Study

Are you looking for a way to find spiritual refreshment during the Advent season? You are invited to a four session, weekly Advent experience that includes scripture reading, conversation, and prayer. Each session focuses on one simple Advent word and a suggestion for a way to pray during this important, but often hectic, season.

Kelly Towey and Pastor Greta will facilitate the sessions, which will be based on the Advent resource Behold, by Pamela Hawkins. All sessions will run 55 minutes in length.

Wednesday Morning Women's Advent Bible Study

This December the Wednesday Morning Women’s Bible Study will focus on an Advent and Christmas theme, using the book Behold, by Pamela Hawkins. This study helps us ponder the meaning of Christ’s coming into our world through scripture and prayer, with a central word for each of the four weeks in Advent – Expectancy, Preparation, Faith and Promise. All women are invited to this study. Books will be available for purchase at the meetings. Leaders are Maggie Roth, Kelly Towey and Pastor Greta.

Our November 18 meeting will be a special introductory session.

Covenant Bible Study

This fall we will continue with our Covenant Bible Study on Wednesday mornings at 10:30 a.m. and evenings at 6:30 p.m. We especially invite those parents whose children are engaged in choir rehearsals on Wednesday evenings to join us. Professional childcare will be provided upon request on these evenings. Please contact John Smoke at john@dgfumc.org or 630.968.7120 to request childcare services.

Our focus for fall is on Living the Covenant. We will watch Ruth struggle with decisions and living out the faith. We will walk through the gospel of Luke and get our acts together in Acts. We will go back to the Old Testament one week then bounce into the New the following.

A Covenant stands for a promise that God made. So let’s look at ourselves and the story and watch how this promise walks us through the bible and our own living.

Sunday Morning Bible Study

Jesus; His Life, Death and Resurrection will be an adult class offered at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday mornings, beginning September 13 and continuing through November 22.

The class, led by Del Hargreaves, will use the Gospel of Matthew in the Bible as its textbook. The sessions will cover: Birth, Baptism and desert experience; Early Ministry and the calling of the disciples; the ministry of Jesus; his arrest, trial, and crucifixion; and Resurrection.

Foundations Class - The Methodist Identity Part 2

This February the Foundations class will begin exploring Part 2 of the Methodist Identity: Our Beliefs. This course focuses on the doctrines that make Methodists distinctive and features insights from leading Methodist theologians concerning core Wesleyan ideas. This course will benefit lifelong Methodists and those coming to Methodism from other traditions.

Participation in the previously held Part 1 class is not required. All are welcome to attend.

Lesson topics include: The Nature of Methodist Doctrine, Divine Trinity and Christianity, Prevenient Grace and Repentance, Justifying Faith and Assurance and more.

If you are interested in learning our history, please plan on attending as this should be an interesting discussion. Gary Ketterer will be the class leader.
