Pastor Greta invites you to join her Thursday mornings this October from 11:00 -11:45 a.m. or Thursday evenings from 6:30 - 7:15 p.m. to reflect on the insights in the book Listen - Praying in a Noisy World. This book by retired Bishop Rueben Job discusses how to weave prayer more naturally into your life. The final meeting will be this Thursday, October 23, in the parlor.

Parent Book Discussion and Coffee Time

Parents of young children are invited to come to a coffee and discussion time. Our discussion will be based on the book, Mitten Strings for God: Reflections for Mothers in A Hurry by Katrina Kenison. We’ll be exploring strategies to feel less hurried amidst the often busy schedules that fill the lives of parents, as well as ways to connect and be fully present for our children. This discussion time will be geared to both fathers and mothers. Child care will be provided at the church.

Leading the discussion will be Kelly Towey, M.Ed, whose educational background includes Child and Family Studies.

Whether a big crisis shakes us or little things wear away, these moments confront us with who we really are. This class looks at how these moments are opportunities to find out who we really are, when God can meet us there to help us face our fears and rediscover our true self as part of his larger story.

Foundations Class - The Methodist Identity

In the congregation we are called Methodists, but do we know the story of Methodism and how it was formed?

Join us Sunday mornings starting this September to learn more about our Methodist Identity. In Part 1: Our Story, leading Methodist scholars describe the 18th century Wesleyan revival England and the growth of Methodism in the United States and around the world.
This course will benefit both lifelong Methodists and those coming to Methodism from other traditions. 

Topics include: John and Charles Wesley: The Early Years; Methodist Beginnings; American Methodism; and Methodism and Social Holiness.

If you are interested in learning our history, please plan on attending. This class will be taught by Gary Ketterer.

Immigration Issues Facing Churches Class

On Wednesday, February 5 in place of the regularly scheduled Invitation to the Old Testament class at 6:30 p.m., the Adult Education committee will be hosting a class to focus on immigration issues facing churches and how we should approach immigration from a Biblical perspective. Tim Kustusch, advocacy specialist with World Relief, will be walking us through the key talking points in the immigration debate.  World Relief is an international relief and development agency offering assistance to victims of poverty, disease, hunger, war, disasters and persecution. The class will be held in Room 213 and all are welcome.

Impacts of Immigration Forum

The Adult Education Work Area invites you to learn more about the impacts of immigration as we sift through the facts and fiction of how immigration affects our community. Presenters will include advocates from Justice for Our Neighbors - Northern Illinois Conference, Rev. Michael Mann and Emmy Lou John.

Invitation to the Old Testament

Invitation to the Old TestamentBegin the New Year in the beginning!

Join in this new bible study class led by Pastor Jim. This class reads the Old Testament from front to back, studying the Hebrew bible to not simply discover how these texts have spoken to God's people for centuries, but to learn what these texts have to say to God's people today.

The classes start on January 8, and you can attend at either 10am or 6:30pm in the Adult Education room (Room 213).

Advent Group Study - The Purpose of Christmas

The Purpose of ChristmasStarting Sunday, December 8 and running for three weeks, we will explore The Purpose of Christmas. Together we will explore Celebration, Salvation and Reconciliation as they apply to the Christmas experience. It is about why we celebrate Christmas and how it can change our lives forever. Rick Warren, author of this program, is the founder and senior pastor of Saddleback Church in California. He is perhaps best known for his book The Purpose Driven Life.

The program is geared for young adult through older adult so if that is you, please plan on joining us on Sunday mornings from 9:30-10:30 a.m. in Room 213. No sign-up is needed, although it would be helpful for planning purposes. Terry McDorman will facilitate the program. Study Guide books are available at Cokesbury and Amazon.
